Kermanshah, c.1920, Qajar dynasty, of rectangular form with a hinged gently domed lid raised by a simple shaped thumbpiece, all upon four bun feet, the body with deep chased Mohabbat-Kari decoration of Achaemenid revival scenes such as the relief from Naqsh-i Rustam of the investiture of Ardashir I on horseback who receives the ring of office from Ahura Mazda the supreme Zoroastrian god on horseback to the front, the reverse Khosrow Parviz on his favourite horse, Shabdiz, with fan bearers and a Yazata (angel), one side with scenes from Taq-e Bostan with the Coronation of Ardashir II with Ardashir II in the middle, receiving the diadem from Shapur II on the right and Mithra to the left, Ardashir II and Shapur II standing on their fallen enemy, the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate, the lid with a scene of Bahram II holding an audience from the Naqsh-i Rustam. 11cm long, 11.3 troy ounces
