Auction: PICTURES, 11th Jun, 2025

Welcome to our upcoming Pictures auction on 11 June 2025. This sale will feature a diverse array of works spanning centuries and styles, from grand landscapes to intimate portraits, and promises something for every collector.

Among the highlights is Lot 119, 'A Watering Place' by the collaboration of Thomas Sidney Cooper RA (1803-1902) and Frederick Richard Lee RA (1798-1879). This exquisite oil on board, depicting cattle watering at a ford near farm buildings, is a testament to their mastery of pastoral scenes, carrying an estimate of £3000-5000.

Another significant offering is Lot 63, 'Study for the 'Goose Girl Bathing', attributed to the influential French artist Jean François Millet (1814-1875). Estimated at £3000-5000.

For those drawn to maritime art, Lot 82, 'Warship Under Tow, Tynemouth' by John Scott (1802-1885), is a standout. This dramatic oil on canvas, with a provenance from Christies in 1995, is estimated at £2000-3000.

The auction also presents several intriguing portraits, including Lot 96, 'Portrait of a Lady', attributed to Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (1769-1830), estimated at £2000-3000. From the early 20th Century, Lot 27, 'Portrait of a Caribbean Lady, Possibly Cuba' by an Early 20th Century American School artist, offers a vibrant and enigmatic presence with an estimate of £400-600.

Figurative studies are also well represented with Lot 55, 'Study of a Red Headed Nude', attributed to the American realist Robert Henri (1865-1929), carrying an estimate of £800-1200.

Finally, we are delighted to offer a captivating print by Samuel Palmer (1805-1881). Lot 83, 'The Lonely Tower', a signed etching with plate number 16, provides a wonderful opportunity to acquire a work by this master of the Romantic movement, estimated at £400-600.
