David Elstob

Before setting up Elstob Auctioneers, David was Director at Thomas Watson Auctioneers in Darlington and headed up the saleroom team at Addisons of Barnard Castle in County Durham.

He has an MA in Antiques from the University of Central Lancashire and regular appearances on many antiques-related TV shows.

Although David has extensive general knowledge of antiques, his particular specialism is 20th-Century design, particularly the work of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. This renowned Yorkshire furniture maker was part of the 1920’s revival of craftsmanship inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement led by William Morris, John Ruskin and William Carlyle, and Elstob Auctioneers has become a focal point for buying and selling his work and of his followers.

As well as advising clients on the valuation, sale, purchase and management of antiques and fine arts, David also offers advice in the broader areas of storage, security, conservation and restoration, shipping and packaging.
